Back in May this year (2025), I was working on something behind the scenes that, unless you were subscribed to the Crochet Society subscription boxes, you probably wouldn’t have known about! I teamed up with the amazing crew at Crochet Society to design one of their wonderful crochet kits.

Being May, I really wanted to celebrate the joys of spring and the arrival of summer, which might feel a little strange to talk about at this time of year in the northern hemisphere, but I adore it! And for those of you down south, you’ll be just starting to enjoy my favourite season, so…!
Spring is absolutely my go-to season, perhaps because I was born then, but to me it represents everything new and exciting for the year ahead. Winter is over, summer is on its way, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and the buds are bursting to life again. It’s a time for renewal and new beginnings, so I thought: what can I design that really resonates with this time of year? Of course, it had to be May Day!
And I don’t mean the distress call, I mean the May Day festival, celebrated since ancient times on May 1st. It marks the beginning of summer with traditions like maypole dancing and Morris dancing. So I decided to put together a set of crochet patterns that truly celebrate the joy of this season, the beginning of the harvest, maypole dancing, and all that is spring and summer. I wanted to create designs that would bring colour, vibrancy, and a sense of connection to nature into your home. Just pure joy in a crochet box!
Box 54 featured a spiral, maypole-inspired
Summer Picnic Cushion, my adorable
Scrumpy the Scarecrow, who watches over the newly sown seeds, and the
Bloom and Grow Headband, pretty and floral, and perfect for dancing and all the festivities. The kit also included a beautiful bonus pattern from Crochet Society,
the Windmill Blanket.
But that wasn't all. Inside
box 54 you also found a collection of six yarns,
Crochet Society's Cool Cotton Mix, to make all three of my main projects in the pattern booklet. I specially chose colours that complimented the projects, that were bright and cheerful. Perhaps even a little different to what I normally work with because I really wanted to play with colour. You also got some extra treats.. let's take a look!
What's in box 54?
- 6 x Mini Cotton Yarn Balls
- Floral Stitch Marker
- Embroidery Patch
- Spiral Crochet Hook
- Stuffing
- Handy Snips
- Headband
- Tassel Maker
