I Found Crochet Inspiration in a 6000 Year Old Tomb
When Misi and I traveled to Brittany, France, I expected beautiful coastlines, crepes, and maybe a quiet moment or two to recharge. What I didn’t expect was to stand among thousands of ancient stones stretching for four miles and to feel a powerful pull that would inspire my memory of some archive crochet designs rooted in history, energy, and something deeper I can’t quite explain.

The Carnac stones in Brittany are one of the world’s most mysterious and expansive prehistoric sites. With over 3,000 standing stones aligned in long, straight rows across the countryside, the site dates back over 6,000 years, long before the Egyptian pyramids and even older than Stonehenge. Walking among them was both awe inspiring and disorienting. The sheer scale of it, mile after mile of stones, made me feel like I was standing inside a forgotten language, or maybe an ancient pulse of the Earth itself.

Not far from the alignments, I explored a 6,000 year old cairn tomb, a burial chamber made of stacked stones, still intact after millennia. Crawling inside, surrounded by the weight of time and silence, I felt something settle in me. A calm. A connection. A knowing, and oddly, a creative spark. Inside, I discovered something incredible, a hand carved foot symbol etched into the stone. That single carving made the presence of the past feel even more real, more human. We are ancient creative beings.

Someone recently commented on one of my videos, "I thought this was a crochet channel," and yes, I get it. My channel is called HappyBerry Crochet after all, but to me, crochet has always been more than just tutorials and patterns. It’s about inspiration. It’s about connection. It’s about healing and expression and the stories behind what we make. That’s why I’m beginning to share more of the life behind the designs, the moments that breathe life into my work and give it meaning.

Being at Carnac, surrounded by these ancient stones, stirred something ancestral in me. Though the stones predate Celtic culture, I couldn’t help but feel a deep rooted link. They made me think of my own family history, which I can trace back to the Picts in Scotland, a people with their own sacred symbols and stonework. It all feels connected somehow. And from that energy, that history, I began remembering my Celtic triangle motif. Yes, it's inspired by the Celts, even though these stones came before, because inspiration isn't always about accuracy. Sometimes it's about resonance.

This channel, this space, is evolving, just like I am. You’ll still find crochet tutorials and patterns here, but you’ll also find the stories behind them: travel, curiosity, mental well being, and moments that spark joy and creativity. That’s the heart of HappyBerry, not just the yarn, but the feeling.

If you'd like to watch the full journey, here’s the video:

And if you’re curious, I’ve shared a few of my Celtic inspired crochet patterns here:

Thank you for being here. For being open to more. For walking this evolving creative path with me.
