What's Hot in the Crochet World 2026?
I’m not usually one to follow trends, but there’s something undeniably inspiring about seeing what’s gaining momentum in the crochet world and what might be waiting just around the corner. With 2026 racing towards Spring, let’s dive into what’s already making waves this year.

Crochet Street Style Meets the Catwalk

Whether it’s crochet on the catwalk or crochet on the street, it’s clear it’s no longer just about the classic granny square. Designers are embracing pieces that are big, baggy and beautifully bold, perhaps echoing the 90s revival that seems to be everywhere right now. Over-sized cardigans, gloriously puffy sleeves,  heavy layers and even statement, wide-leg trousers are all stepping into the spotlight and honestly, I’m completely here for the comfy vibe.

Retro is everywhere right now, and we’re seeing the classic granny square re-imagined into all sorts of funky, joyful pieces. But one rather unexpected fashion quirk this season has been the rise of fitted crochet skullcaps (see here - this will take you to WWD's website) spotted all over Copenhagen Fashion Week. Whether they lean more 2000s or 60s in spirit, these little beanies, often paired with minimalist, tailored looks, were absolutely everywhere. Many featured intricate details such as beads and richly coloured patterns, apparently drawing inspiration from centuries-old nightcaps, but either way, I see some crochet skullcap designs in my future HappyBerry repertoire.

Colours, Textures & Materials Making Waves

Blue is definitely strong right now, along with other bold shades like purple, but there’s also a noticeable shift toward earthy tones and neutrals, perhaps reflecting the move by crocheters and designers toward more organic, recycled, and biodegradable fibres driven by sustainability values.

I’m also seeing a big rise in textured patterns, especially Tunisian crochet and other stitch-heavy designs. Think bobbles, puffs, chunky 3D elements, and quirky stitch variations. It’s one of the reasons I’ve launched a new series on our YouTube channel, where I’m sharing a mix of weird and wonderful crochet stitches, some invented, some familiar, to inspire your own creativity!

Another trend gaining momentum is mixing crochet with other materials, like denim, leather, or even knitting, and combining patches into modular segments. These approaches offer fresh, playful ways to add dimension and style to your pieces.

Community Buzz & Crochet Kits

If we can cut through all the AI noise that seems to flood our socials these days, it’s clear that amigurumi plushies are still reigning supreme in the crochet community, racking up billions of views on TikTok and Instagram. Alongside them though I'm seeing lots of stitch patterns, crochet tips, and quick, cute accessories, like small purses and hair clips, also lighting up our feeds.

One standout design though at the moment has to be Janie Crow’s Persian Tiles Blanket. Thousands of fellow crocheters are putting their own spin on it with unique colour-ways like this stunning version by Christine Allan. Based on Persian and Moroccan textiles and architecture, it has become Janie Crow’s best-selling design. You can check it out in more detail on her website here!

When it comes to crochet kits, beginner sets still remain hugely popular, perhaps more out of necessity than style, with starter boxes, all-in-one kits, value bundles, and beginner-friendly amigurumi kits dominating sales, but licensed character kits, like SpongeBob and Snoopy, are also hitting our shelves. Other creative patterns I'm seeing are temperature blankets and zero-waste yarn kits, which are gaining traction as part of the broader handmade sustainability movement.

So 2026 is shaping up to be a thrilling year for crochet. From bold, over-sized fashion pieces to textured stitches, modular designs, and playful amigurumi, the community is overflowing with creativity and inspiration. Trends are definitely shifting and boundaries are being pushed, but there’s a real sense of excitement in seeing what makers come up with next. It’s a year to explore, experiment, and celebrate all the ways crochet continues to surprise and delight!
